SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS
The Driving Young America Committee supports annually (through scholarships and/or grants) students and young professionals looking to get an education/enter into a profession in the following categories:
Restoration
Restoration is a key element of the automotive hobby. Our efforts here are to help students start or expand their careers in this area. The pilot program in 2021 was with the RPM Foundation to help provide support for internships to gain valuable hands-on experience.
Performance in Automotive
This program works with schools that emphasize careers on performance. Driving Young America offers scholarships to students through the schools' financial aid departments. The pilot program in 2021 was with the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Aviation Careers
This program is focused on supporting students pursuing a technical career in the aviation field. The pilot program in 2021 was with Savannah Technical College, a part of the Georgia Tech family of schools.
Tools for Techs
This program awards scholarships for starter tool sets students need to buy to begin their tech education. Our pilot program in 2021 was with the Blue Ridge Community College in Hendersonville, NC.
Women in Automotive
Driving Young America's efforts are directed to identifying programs focused on encouraging women to pursue technical careers and then supporting them so they remain in these areas. The 2021 pilot program was in conjunction with Women in Auto Care, a part of the Auto Care Association.
Local Scholarships
Driving Young America is dedicated to supporting a local student (Beaufort County and the surrounding counties) who wants to pursue a career in the automotive/aviation/mobility industry through an annual scholarship award.
Applications will be made available for the above opportunities summer 2022. If you're interested in learning more about any of the above opportunities, please contact Driving Young America's Committee Chairman, Robert Lee.

Highlights from 2021:
MICHELIN JUNIOR CHALLENGE DESIGN
Since 2017, the Hilton Head Island Concours' Driving Young America charitable fund has partnered with Michelin North America to bring an exclusive, one-of-a-kind experience to Beaufort County high school students. The Challenge is open to any student attending one of the six high schools in the Beaufort County School District and the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island.
Each year, students are presented with the theme of the current challenge and are asked to create and submit their design. All entries are judged by designers from Michelin and one finalist (individual or team) is selected from each school/club. Finalists present their entries at the Hilton Head Island Concours to an expert panel of judges (which has included names such as Michael Simcoe (GM), Jay Ward (Pixar) and Moray Callum (Ford)) who then select the overall winner. Each finalist receives a scholarship, the overall winner receives an additional scholarship and the winning school receives a cash prize.
More information to come on the 6th annual Michelin Junior Challenge Design this fall at the 2022 Hilton Head Island Concours.
HAGERTY YOUTH JUDGING In partnership with Hagerty and the Hagerty Drivers Foundation, the Hilton Head Island Concours offers youth (ages 6 - 14) the opportunity to get more involved by bringing the world of judging to a kid-friendly level and connecting future enthusiasts with current collectors. Does your child like cars and want a chance to learn about some cool classics? On Saturday, November 5th, Hagerty will again offer their signature Youth Judging Program as part of the 2022 Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance. The program is free (show admission is complimentary to Youth Judges and their parent/guardian) and lasts about 90 minutes. Click HERE for more information and to sign up. |
