2022 chief judge | john carlson
We are pleased and honored to announce our Chief Judge for the 2022 Hilton Island Concours d’Elegance will be John Carlson!

John is a University of British Columbia graduate who has spent 30 years in secondary education specializing in fine art and antique automobile restoration. John is serving his 21st year as President and CEO of the National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada Corporation (NAACC). He is a Classic Car Club of America Master Judge and a past National President of the Vintage Car Club of Canada.
John participates at numerous Concours d’Elegance events throughout North America, one of them being the Pebble Beach Concours for the last 30 plus years. He received his 25-year recognition pin for judging at Pebble Beach in 2021. He is a multi-decade member of the Classic Car Club of America, the Model A Ford Club of America, Early Ford V8 Club of America, British Columbia Hot Rod Association, Vintage Car Club of Canada and the Allard Owners Club.
John began his international judging career in 1977 and has been involved in many prestigious events. He is a Chief Judge at the Hilton Head Concours, Arizona Concours, Cobble Beach Concours, Vancouver Island Concours, Crescent Beach Concours, and is the Chief Judge for the Vintage Car Club of Canada and the NAACC. He serves on the Steering Committee for the LeMay America’s Car Museum. He is a Charter & Founding Member of the (ICJAG) International Chief Judge Advisory Group. John is a hands-on restorer who maintains his own ten plus vehicle private collection which includes a 1950 J2 Allard, winner of the first Monterey Unlimited Pebble Beach Road Races in 1950, 1932 3 window preservation Ford, 1 of 87 Canadian coupes and a 1999 NSX one of 51 Zanardi Supercars. He is currently building a 1932 Ford ‘real Henry steel’ roadster with an Ardun powered Italamechania blown flathead engine.
John Carlson has been inducted into three Motorsport Hall of Fames and was a recipient of the prestigious Lee Iacocca Award in 2015. He is the father of two car guy sons, JJ and David. He resides with his wife Koko of forty-eight years in the seaside village of Belcarra, British Columbia Canada.
