2023 chief judge  | Dr. Paul Sable

We are pleased and honored to announce our Chief Judge for the 2023 Hilton Island Concours d’Elegance will be Dr. Paul Sable!

Dr. Sable is a respected automotive historian, collector, writer, restorer and appraiser. He is also a fervent collector and expert on Ghia-designed cars of the ‘50s and ‘60s and limited-production hybrid cars of the ‘50s including the Hudson Italia, Nash-Healey, Facel Vega and Fiat Ottu Vu (V-8), many of which he collects.  A former Marketing professor at Kutztown University, he was a founder of The  Elegance Concours in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and has been involved with concours for over 30+ years.

As a co-founder and former director of the Concours d’Elegance of the Eastern United States in Reading, Pennsylvania, Dr. Sable has served as an advisor to concours events throughout the years.  In 2011 he became one of the founders and a board member of a new concours, The Elegance at Hershey, which ran for nine years and was widely known as a premier concours.
Dr. Sable has written and contributed articles to both national and international publications. He is currently researching and considering writing articles about early custom sporting cars in America, Italian designer Giovanni Savonuzzi and American designer Vince Gardner.  He and Dr. Geoffrey Hacker are presently writing a book on handcrafted cars of the late ‘40s and ‘50s.

Dr. Sable has served as a Chief Judge over 84 times in the past 30 years and continues to judge at Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, The Concours of America, Cobble Beach, Boca Raton, La Jolla, Radnor, Glenmoor Gathering, Greenwich, Meadow Brook and Hilton Head.  He is respected not only for his knowledge of automobiles but for his ability to bring out the best from a team of judges.
