Jerry Keefer | Keefer Fine Art
At Keefer Fine Art, my mission is to honor the legacy of automotive history by transforming iconic vehicles into stunning works of art. With a passion rooted in the deep appreciation of craftsmanship, design, and the stories behind these machines, I use my proprietary light painting techniques to create pieces that capture the soul and essence of each car. |
Having spent years refining my craft, I've developed a unique approach that blends photography with artistry, allowing me to showcase these vehicles in a way that elevates them beyond the ordinary. I believe that every car has a story to tell, whether it's the thrill of a race, the nostalgia of a bygone era, or the connection between driver and machine. My goal is to bring that story to life through my work, creating art that resonates with collectors, enthusiasts, and families alike.
Each piece is a celebration of automotive excellence, capturing the intricate details, curves, and character that make every vehicle unique. My work goes beyond mere documentation – it’s about preserving a moment, an emotion, a piece of history. It’s an invitation to look closer, to appreciate the artistry behind these machines, and to share in the passion that drives us all.

After I returned, I became a Professor of Fine Arts and Humanities at Florida State College at Jacksonville. In 2005 I received my PhD and continued to teach and exhibit throughout the eastern United States.
The year 2020 brought a change, however, when I decided to focus solely on my artistic endeavors, which have produced large-scale murals throughout the eastern United States. I won the award of Best Public Art of 2022 for my Florida Shorebirds. Studio endeavors took a front seat, however, where I have been exhibiting in the United States and Europe, winning awards such as the 2023 Botticelli Award in Europe for Contemporary Painting, the Word Revolt Planetary Award and the Teravarna Gallery International Abstraction Talent Award.
I recently exhibited in Miami, New York, Paris, Milan and Berlin. My focus is always to create compositionally quality works, using a technically sound approach. I enjoy showing my work in galleries throughout the world as well as working with the Hilton Head Concours d' Elegance to bring the best “car art” to its automotive guests.

While staying true to my painting style, I’m continually developing and refining my craft. As a progressive artist, I have found form has no limits. When exhibiting artwork, my ambition is to present art with defined continuity and original concepts. While my vivid color palate is deliberate, it’s my painting technique and application that spur the momentum and expression to my sculptures and canvas compositions. |
Graduating from Hope College in 1991 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, I have been a career artist over the past 30-plus years. My art has been featured in numerous prominent magazines. I have graciously received many concours and fine-art awards nationally throughout my career, with paintings and sculptures commissioned through corporate, private and museum collections. As a current member of the Automotive Fine Arts Society, I am committed to building the passion of automotive art.

There are endless artistic explorations to be discovered on, in and about the automobile. Its surface is a limitless supply of color and contour; compositions to be isolated and painted in a realistic technique, yet abstract in the way that a section of chrome and pastel can be removed from its larger context and assume an aesthetic all its own. Reflected images of other vehicles or surroundings can play along the shape of a fender and take on the effects of a "fun-house mirror." In that uniquely American archive that is the "junk yard," there are explorations of a different kind of mood: the irony of finding a once proud luxury car, now in a state of decay, has its own magnetism. As an added "bonus," the contrarian in me loves to stand on its head the image that polite society holds of an old car as nothing but an "eyesore." |

The time is now for me to create the art that I want to make. Using traditional drawing and painting techniques plus modern digital methods, I have ended up with a few “styles” that range from detailed profile drawings to almost cartoonish illustrations to hang on the wall. My goal is to make art that people find interesting enough to purchase and enjoy for years to come. Coming from 40 years as a production artist, I have drawn or designed all sorts of items, from T-shirt designs for major retailers and resorts to packaging for a national grocery chain. The art, though, was secondary to the finished product – the shirt, sign or package. I had to get it done according to customer requests and on time to keep the printing presses running. |
I have been told my paintings are aggressive and spontaneous, which works well with my primary subject matter of racing cars. It’s like I am at the fence line, feet from the track’s edge, where things blur, colors blend, and dirt and dust get kicked up. I love it! Recently I realized that just because you have paint on every square inch of paper or canvas, the painting is not finished – it’s just starting.
